A Few of My Favorite Things: The Glass Flowers at Harvard
As we head out of one of the strangest and most difficult years in memory, I'm looking forward to being able to be out in the world again and return to some kind of normalcy, whatever that may look like now. One of the first places I want to go is to the Glass Flowers exhibit at Harvard's Museum of Natural History. This is one of my favorite places, and I haven't seen the flowers since the museum did a significant renovation on them in 2016.
The father and son duo of Czech glass artists Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka created the collection between 1886 and 1936. In total, there are 4,300 glass models representing 780 plant species. Each model is a meticulous recreation of a plant, flower, or fruit. They are mesmerizing to see in real life, with incredible detail and lifelike accuracy. If you have never had the chance to check out this permanent exhibit, I highly recommend making the trip to the museum, which also houses a pretty phenomenal collection of minerals, gems and rocks.
